The Waldorf Institute of Southeastern Michigan is a sponsored program of the Association of Waldorf Schools of North America. Our program leads to the Diploma in Waldorf Education, which is recognized by Waldorf schools all over the world. The program is composed of three parts: Foundation Studies, Teacher Preparation and Teaching Practicum

A YEAR ROUND PROGRAM
We use a year round format of courses offered on the weekend (Friday evening in Rochester Hills and Saturday in Ann Arbor). The term schedule includes two 11 week terms in Fall and Winter. A short, 3-weekend Spring term completes the year. A full-time student will take six courses during the fall and winter terms, and two during the compressed spring term.

For full information about our current course offerings see our course guide.

Foundation Studies

The Foundation Studies year includes intensive work in the visual, aural, vocal, sculptural and social arts, as well as a thorough introduction to Anthroposophy and Rudolf Steiner. The nature of the human being is studied through courses in child and adult development and cultural history. The Foundation Studies year gives an introduction to the ideas and initiatives of Rudolf Steiner. These artistic and conceptual studies provide the basis for the Waldorf School curriculum and for a personal path of development. Completion of these studies is required before formal admission to the Elementary Education programs. An interview will be required to enter Foundation Studies.

Teacher Education
The Elementary Program usually takes two years of study. Completion of Foundation Studies, or other appropriate experience is required before formal admission to the Elementary Education program, and all students must complete an interview. Please contact Sian Owen-Cruise for more information.
